CAR
CRAZY PROMOTIONS
Benefiting children with developmental disabilities
Car Crazy Promotions' Annual
fund raising Car Show and BBQ began back in 1996 when an interesting article
appeared in the San Francisco Chronicle about a small nonprofit group called
FCLO (Families Creating Living Options). The article highlighted a
PG&E employee, Vern Whitman, and outlined the efforts that he and his
family put forth to establish and run a home for children with severe multiple
disabilities. Since Vern and I grew up in the same neighborhood in San
Francisco and have shared a long standing friendship and interest in collector
cars, Car Crazy Promotions was formed to provide financial support for the FCLO
Project. We decided to embark on a fund raising campaign that included a
car show and bar-b-que, which proved to be a successful formula for meeting the
financial needs of that organization.
Three years ago, FCLO became a 'for-profit' operation; and so, we have been
fortunate to focus our attention and efforts on two other 'nonprofit'
organizations: Special Olympics of San Mateo County and the California School
for the Blind. Since our annual Car Show and BBQ has outgrown its
original location at the San Mateo Elks Lodge we have had to relocate to the
parking lot of Seagate Properties at 1900/2000 Alameda De Las Pulgas. Car
enthusiasts enjoy a day filled with fine autos, 50's and 60's music, great food
and countless sponsored awards. Raffle prizes and refreshment sales
provide an additional means of fund raising during the event.
With each passing year, Car Crazy Promotions has continually 'raised the bar'
from the previous year's fund raising efforts. In 2002, we were able to
generate funds in excess of $21,000, which fully funded the winter program for
the San Mateo County Special Olympics. The California School for the
Blind used their share of the proceeds to improve their educational facility by
purchasing a wide-range of supplies, as well as, enhancing their school
carnival with a petting zoo and pony rides. With each annual show, we
look forward to increasing our fund raising efforts. In 2005 we have also included
the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation.
It is our desire to become
their single highest contributor for a one-day fund raising event!
Our goal this year is raise over $30,000!!
